Processor types

What is a processor?
A processor can be thought of as the 'brain' of a PC, and is also knows as the Central Processing Unit (CPU). The CPU processes instructions and then manipulates data after fetching them from the PC's RAM (Random Access Memory). The PC would not be able to function without the processor. We offer four different types of processors, and they are outlined below.

Intel Celeron processors
Celeron is a brand name for a line of Intel microprocessors, and tends to be the cheapest of the processors. It is more suited for basic computer use, and is for people who don't need to run any major applications on their computers.

Celeron processors produced by Intel are usually based on the current versions of their more powerful Pentium processors, yet are made budget by cutting down on production costs by leaving out certain technologies that are found in the Pentium processor range.

Intel Dual Core processors
With dual core technology, two processor cores are placed into a single socket. This helps to increase the server's performance where it counts, especially when working with business-critical applications and high-end hosting servers.

We offer three types of Dual Core technology, to ensure that clients get the one that is right for them. These are Intel dual core hosting, AMD dual core technology and Intel Core2Duo.

AMD Opteron processors
Opteron was designed by AMD for the server market, and is the name of a family of CPU's within the AMD64 line. Opteron is usually more expensive than the Dual Core technology and Celeron.

Intel Xeon processors
The Intel Xeon processor is the solution for specific communication applications that require the highest levels of processing performance; such as web-serving, storage, search engines, telecommunications servers, network management, security, voice and load balancing.
