Windows and Linux operating systems

What is an operating system and why is it important?

After initially being loaded into the computer, an operating system is the program that manages all the other programs in the computer.

Windows and Linux are the two operating systems that we have to offer. A client should know which operating system is best for their business which is why it is important to know the differences between them.

Partly due to its easy to use interface and global brand familiarity, Windows has become the ‘standard’ operating system for most businesses’ servers.

Windows hosting integrates well with other Microsoft applications and there are a large amount of commercial applications available for this OS, and it also provides a suitable platform for serving up websites, files, and streaming media.

Windows hosting should be used if a client wants to use specific applications such as Access, Cold Fusion, ASP, .Net, and Microsoft SQL, all of which require Microsoft Windows to run them smoothly.

The source code is freely available as Linux hosting is an open operating system. Linux hosting uses technologies such as CGI, Perl, C++, mySQL and PHP, because Unix and Linux are essentially the same since Linux is actually a Unix derivative.

Therefore Linux hosting runs on widely differing hardware platforms and there are thousands of applications that can run on it.

Volunteers all over the world mainly develop Linux, although the IT industry has started contributing as well.
