Server maintenance

Programming errors in your computer’s software can allow virus writers to gain access to your machine, if you’re not vigilant at all times.

It is therefore your responsibility to keep up-to-date with the latest security patches or risk the integrity of the entire network being jeopardised.

The security framework surrounding your network will be maximised, as our server maintenance ensures that the latest patches are installed as they are released. This hosting solution gives you total peace-of-mind.

How is a patch installed?

Once we have received notification of a relevant patch having been released, each dedicated server that is subscribed to the server maintenance package is assessed. The patches are then installed to ensure that the updates are then installed correctly and without any problems.

When will it be done?

The speed in which the patch is installed onto the server depends upon the level of how critical it is. All customers subscribed to the maintenance package will be emailed and informed that a new update has been released. This will then be installed within 1 working day.

If there is a specific request from a customer not to do so, then this will be the only reason for not installing a patch within this time frame. If a patch is released and marked as critical, we will immediately react to install this onto the machine. This ensures that the problem in the operating system cannot be exploited.

Server reboots

Once a patch has been installed, the server that the patch has been installed onto to usually need a reboot. We will contact the customer with regard to the timing of the reboot, as the server will be offline and unavailable for a short time. This ensures that the minimum amount of downtime and inconvenience is caused.

Timing

During normal office hours (8am to 8pm Monday to Friday) the updates will be installed and the server rebooted. We also have a premium package available which involves the installation of patches nominated by the customer.
